Yui Bespoke American Mahjong Set

Its pale folds are alive with flowering branches, tiny birds, and touches of gold. A dark tassel trails beyond it across Yui’s hand-painted Assam teak lid, while brass fittings add their own glimmer at the edges. The composition is playful and poised, with enough open color around the fan to let every small detail draw you closer.

Inside, soft olive-green cotton velvet provides an unexpected counterpoint to rows of pink tiles. Pale blush racks bring the tiles out onto the table, carrying the warmth of the case into play. Even the dice add a little flash of green.

The tile designs reward a closer look. Red and pale green lotus flowers appear among the flowers, while the dot suit arranges its circles in bright, precise patterns. Slender stems mark the bamboo tiles; small birds and botanical jokers echo the life painted across the fan. The symbols remain clear for American mahjong play, with details to discover each time the tiles are gathered for another hand.

This is what more than 500 hours of work by nine Jaipur artisans makes possible. Trained in Rajasthan’s miniature painting tradition, the artists transfer the designs through pinholing, build the colors in layers, and add the final details by hand. Each tile is made from Assam teak and lacquered for play. The case is painted to be admired in its own right, then lined to protect the set within.
